Donating is the best way to support Groundwork Rhode Island!

While we welcome volunteers, interns, and other community involvement from the general public, Groundwork Rhode Island’s mission is to employ local residents by providing both skills training and pathways to economic opportunity for people who face barriers to employment, reside in lower-income communities, and are looking to make improvements in their own lives and the wider community. Many of the types of volunteer activities that would be typical in another organization such as planting trees or other hands-on work, are actually activities we do with paid employees, both youth and adults, as well as our job training students. At the same time, there are still many ways to get involved!

Join our Board of Directors

Becoming a member of Groundwork Rhode Island’s Board of Directors is a great way to give back! The Board meets 10 times a year, monthly, but skipping two holiday or summer months based on the availability of members. The Board supports the Executive Director and other senior staff in making key decisions about the organization including strategic direction, making large purchases, and how to grow the organization in terms of budget and staffing needs. The Board oversees the annual budget through a review and approval process, and also supports fundraising by donating to the organization individually, connecting outside donors with the organization, and/or planning fundraising events. Time commitment can vary but typically a board member can plan to spend 3-5 hours per month on Groundwork RI-related activities. Anyone is welcome to apply to the Board – no specific skills are required though legal, financial, and communications skills or expertise are always useful! Commitment to and enthusiasm for our mission and a willingness to brag to all your friends and family about us are key! Please contact Amelia Rose, Executive Director, at arose @ groundworkri.org with any questions.

Volunteering/Internship

If you are interested in volunteering or doing an internship with Groundwork Rhode Island, or would like more information about joining our volunteer Board of Directors, please use our General Volunteer Sign-Up Form and email [email protected] to let us know how you’d like to get involved! While we will try to follow up with people interested in volunteering, unfortunately, we can’t always accommodate volunteers due to staff capacity limitations. Some examples of ways we can typically accommodate volunteers include: 1) summer internships for college students, 2) skilled volunteers such as carpenters, grant writers, etc. that can lend their expertise to support one of our programs, 3) individual volunteers especially who are interested in helping Harvest Cycle, and 4) companies or groups that can provide funding to support a larger volunteer event for their employees or the general community.

Fundraising for the West End Compost Hub

We are currently fundraising to build the West End Compost Hub! Learn more about our work to remediate 34 Fuller Street and transform it into a medium-scale composting facility here. You can help us transform this vacant lot into a community compost hub, or support other Groundwork RI programs, by donating at the link below:
